Hi, I'm Pauline 👋  Are you ready to hear my story? Let's go!

 

I moved from Beijing to London alone at the age of 17 to attend university. After earning my master’s degree, I became a full-time microblogger on Sina Weibo, using a name I created, where I shared advice and insights about British life with Chinese students in the UK. Within a year, I gained 200,000 followers.

​

In 2012, with angel investment, I founded my own digital media and marketing company. My social media name became the brand. As managing director, I grew the business to 7-figure revenue.

​

We ran a website, app, multiple social media channels, and a newsletter, producing daily in-house content. I led a team of 20 people and collaborated with top UK and global brands.

​

In 2023, I sold the business to start a new chapter. I’m passionate about building authentic, impactful brands and enjoy partnering with mission-driven founders creating products and services that matter.

​

So.. why should founders invest in branding?

​

Branding is more than a name, logo, and look. It is a crucial element of a business's long-term success. Building a brand will take time and effort. It's an ongoing process and an investment for the future.

 

Based on my experience as an entrepreneur, here are three scenarios when brand building should be a priority:

 

1. You want to sell at a premium price or partner with well-known brands.

2. You want to attract investors and sell your business one day.

​

3. You want your customers to trust and like you more than your competitors. 

​

Also, here are three lessons I've learned as an entrepreneur:

​

1. Your brand is everything your company does. The desire to protect my brand compelled me to build a better company by becoming a better leader.

​

2. Owning a brand kept me sane. It reminded me that my brand is a separate entity and I am its guardian. As a result, I was able to respond to day-to-day business challenges without taking them personally.

​

3. Businesses can fail, but a brand's value can be sustained and passed on. This is called brand equity and should be built from the start.
